Rethinking Crop Nutrition with endophyte
BioSam is an Agri-biotech company with a mission to develop break-through biofertility solutions that will greatly improve the sustainability and profitability of crop production in Canada. Specifically, we will achieve this by developing high-performing microbial products that increase yield and significantly reduce the amount of chemical fertilizer that the farmer needs to apply – by significantly reducing greenhouse gas fertilizer emissions.
About usWith limited agricultural land and finite fertilizers like Phosphorus, we face a critical challenge in feeding a rapidly growing global population. To ensure food security for 10 billion people by 2050, we must develop sustainable farming practices, reduce waste, and embrace innovative technologies that maximize resource efficiency and minimize environmental impact. The future of food depends on our ability to think creatively and act responsibly now.
Our reliance on chemical phosphorus fertilizers creates significant problems. Studies show that 70% to 90% of applied phosphorus is lost through soil tie-up and nutrient runoff. This inefficiency leads to overuse, degrades soil quality, increases costs for farmers, and raises environmental concerns. To ensure sustainable farming, we must address these challenges by finding smarter, more efficient solutions.
Nitrogen fertilizers pose even greater environmental concerns. Nitrous oxide (NOX), a greenhouse gas 300 times more potent than CO2, is released after fertilizer application. Additionally, the energy used to manufacture nitrogen fertilizers contributes over 1 gigaton of CO2 emissions, accounting for 5% of global emissions. Even more troubling, only 42% of the nitrogen applied is absorbed by plants, while the rest contributes to soil degradation and harmful emissions. To tackle climate change, we must rethink our approach to nitrogen fertilizers.

Market Focus :
We will focus on the Bio fertilitysegment of the overall biologicals market as it is established and fast growing.
Crop Focus
Given BSI001's performance as a P mobilizer and enabler of N fixation and its ability to mitigate abiotic stresses, the focus on crops which are big consumers of these nutrients, and which are susceptible to drought and heat stress i.e., row crops, specifically soybeans, wheat, canola and corn. As all planted hectares receive fertilizer, all are potentially addressable. Secondarily, we will test BSI001 in high value speciality crops where fertility is less important but the biostimulant benefits may be valuable, e.g., potatoes and top fruits.
Geographic focus :
We will first focus 'close to home', i.e., Canada row crop markets, where novel fertility technology such as BSI001 is needed by farmers and encouraged by government. policySecondarily we will target Brazil soybeans, which require enormous quantities of phosphorous and is the world's fastest adopter of biological technology. Thirdly, we will target US corn and soybeans which have large surfaces in a concentrated (easily accessible) area.

BioSam's business model is centered on leveraging established agricultural channels to deliver innovative bio-based solutions. They focus on research and development, creating proprietary formulations and conducting proof-of-concept trials. By partnering with co-developers for manufacturing and registration, they ensure scalability and compliance. BioSam then works with distributors and retailers to bring their products to growers, providing technical support and brand promotion at each stage. This model emphasizes collaboration, accessibility, and trust, making it easy for growers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. The company maintains ownership of its intellectual property, ensuring long-term value and innovation within the agricultural sector.

BioSam's profitability analysis demonstrates a sustainable and equitable distribution of margins across the entire value chain, from co-development to the end grower. The analysis reveals a competitive grower price of $25 per hectare, aligning with market standards for mycorrhizae biostimulants. Retailers benefit from a 15% margin, while distributors secure a 20% margin, both with potential for slight variation. Co-development partners enjoy a substantial 50% margin, reflecting their significant role in manufacturing and formulation. BioSam's BS1001 cost of goods is calculated at $6.80, inclusive of a $1.70 royalty, highlighting the company's efficient cost structure. The analysis assumes a 200gr/hectare dose rate, with a feasible product cost of up to $35/kg. This affordability is attributed to BS1001's production simplicity compared to other mycorrhizae products. Overall, the analysis confirms that BioSam's model allows for profitability at each stage, ensuring a viable and attractive market proposition.
